Breaking news regarding Amtrak’s Pacific Parlour car, Amtrak will be retiring it.

If you are unaware of Amtrak’s Pacific Parlour car please visit this .

A short extract from it is:

Pacific Parlour Cars are first-class lounges used exclusively on Amtrak Coast Starlight Trains #14 & 11. The cars are used as the exclusive lounge for First Class / Sleeping Car Passengers. They feature 3 types of luxurious seating, a full bar, food serving area, and a movie theatre downstairs. The Parlour Car is the true heart of the Coast Starlight, and holds the Wine Tasting as well as Continental breakfast. Since these cars were built over 50 years ago, these ex-Santa Fe Hi-Level cars are one of Amtrak’s most prized assets.

was fortunate enough to travel on the Coast Starlight from Seattle on his way to San Franciso and experience the Pacific Parlour car first hand including the cinema, where it was showing The Great Gatsby.

Today (19th January 2018) I received the following note from Amtrak.

We want to inform you that Amtrak will retire the renowned Pacific Parlour car. The last day of service will be on the Coast Starlight Train 14 on Feb. 2, and on the Coast Starlight Train 11 on Feb. 4. Retiring the Parlour Car is part of Amtrak’s ongoing work to modernize its fleet of equipment.

The Coast Starlight will continue to provide daily service from Seattle to Los Angeles. Amtrak is reviewing what amenities offered in the Parlour Car will be available in the future. Customers will continue to enjoy the trip and spectacular views from other areas of the train, including the Dining and Sightseer Lounge cars.

Hopefully Amtrak will come up with something suitable to still give the Coast Starlight that edge over other Amtrak routes — other than the scenary of course!
