Cllr Alastair Majury on Rylands Path
A number of people have contacted me to highlight the poor state that Rylands Path and steps are in.
As the pictures below (taken 3rd September 2020) show, there are missing steps, broken steps, and missing handrails, amongst other issues. I had previously reported that the path was in poor condition and was informed that a temporary repair had been made.
I alerted the council to the poor condition of the path and they quickly came back with the following:
Our officers have advised they will attend the park this week and if deemed dangerous they will cordon off the steps until the steps are repaired.
The initial repairs undertaken were not withstanding the heavy rainfall and storms experienced at the beginning of the year and as a result further repairs were arranged for the summer months, however the COVID-19 crisis has caused a backlog to maintenance work.
We have recently been advised this work is scheduled for late September.
I am pleased that officers responded so quickly, and I hope that the path and steps will be brought back into a suitable condition by the end of September.
